Edit Page update button results in a 404 error

  • When I edit a page or a post and click the update button I am now redirected to a 404 error page.

    In Chrome I am redirected to the “This is somewhat embarrassing, isn’t it?
    It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching can help.” In IE I just get a 404 error.

    I was editing pages just fine 4 days ago and no updates have been applied since. I have disabled all plugins but to no avail.

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
