Edit page no longer loads?

    I attempted to update to v2.8.8 and up from v2.8.5 and when doing so it creates a problem when trying to edit any page. The edit page screen hangs while trying to load and eventually shows a “There has been a critical error on this website.” message or a 502 error.

    The site is hosted on WP Engine and in the error logs I see:
    PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4096 bytes) in /nas/content/live/onbstaging/wp-content/plugins/pods/classes/PodsView.php on line 144

    If it matters, the site is using the Salient theme with the WPBakery Page Builder.
