• I inherited a wordpress website (not a static page) after my son lost his business webmaster. I do not normally use CMS sites and cannot figure how to navigate into the home page to make changes in the headers and body. It appears that the site is set up to accept no posts. It utilizes dissolving slide shows. I don’t want to muck things up sorting thru code. Please help me to navigate into the home page edit. https://www.quarrygranite.com

  • Typically, the default page at the Home URL of a WP site is index.php and it is found in the theme. That said, please provide a site URL (as suggested) as others in the WP community may pick up on your issue..without, your request is too vague.

To view the home page source navigate to your index.php in the root directory.

I edit mine in dreamweaver and overwrite the existing file.

Thanks for the serious question, Seacoast.

I would be terrified to touch a WP site w/ Dreamweaver. I am a 69 year old total amateur but I may be able to handle some txt editing. I need to sort out how to navigate into the CMS architecture without screwing up anything. I downloaded the WP site before I transferred it to another server so I have all of the files. I did look at the index file in notepad but I really am scared and I would appreciate help in navigating within the WP CMS.

I would not recommend using Dreamweaver at all – it’s not necessary. In general, you should make changes in a Child Theme – that way your changes won’t be overwritten when the theme is updated. Or if only CSS changes, you can use a custom CSS option or plugin.

It looks like you are using a commercial theme – and there, we can’t help with theme-specific questions (we don’t have access to those themes) – but general WP “how to” help we can do.

What are you trying to change?

I really appreciate your reply. My problems are all theme-related (Mysitemyway inFocus theme). I have contacted them for assistance. I feel stupid and you saved me hours of searching for the most basic starting point. You are a good person to help me with such a basic question.

Sure, that’s what we try to do here – sounds like you are on the right path to sorting out the theme questions.
