  • check the setting > reading if you set the Front page to Home.
    If not then set it.

How do I set the Front page to home ?

I do not have a ‘setting’ menu item.

    what theme are you using?
what do you want to change on the home page?

the home page is usually generated using index.php or front-page.php of your theme – you might need to edit the theme’s templates…

ok where do I start. I get a fair amount of work from my domain.

My host has gone AWOL and they also have control of the domain name.

I have managed remove all the pages and re-add them with just a meta refresh so they redirect to a new domain name where I have full control.

But the only page I have a problem in redirecting is the front page as it is called. the https://www.site.com page. https://www.site.com/home/ is refreshing fine, as I can edit that page.

I do not know which theme is being used and do not even know where to look to find this out.

After reading more around google results, it seems the guy that created the site may have disabled the reading panel.

I tried to add a new page site.com/index.php but it has the leading / after the url and stil the original default page is showing and no way of removing it.

Ok, if you want to change the default home page, then you can do it quite easily.

Just go to the setting-> reading, and then just mention your home page name.

It is as simple, in case you have got any query, then we will revert you for the same.

    thanks

I do not see anything about setting > reading. where is it, I think the guy that setup the site has disabled this.

@jasonc310771 – do you have FTP/SFTP access to the old server? You might see if disabling all themes and plugins allows you to have more access to the old WordPress site. I’m thinking that maybe the developer put something in the theme’s functions.php file to lock it down so you don’t have access to some of the WordPress settings. That or a plugin. If so, all you need to do is disable/reset the themes and plugins and see if that gets you the access you need to finish up the redirects you need.

No, the original guy has gone AWOL. No access to anything but dashboard with limited features.

I can create new pages, but unable to edit exiting page as the content of those pages does not show up in the editor. I have made all pages private and changed the url to them to …old

    i.e. https://www.site.com/galleryold

then created a new gallery page with the same link the original page had and then added a meta refresh to the HTML view. This allows me to have the pages that google has indexed redirect to a new domain I have setup.

The problem I have is that I can not edit the existing images with new ones without the new image being saved under a new url. The original site has an image with phone numbers that are old ones and no longer in use and I can not replace them as I can not them edit the page’s original content as it doe snot show up.

OMG….. I just had another look at the other pages and saw that they were created by a different author than the login we have been given. So what I done was login using the author name and the same password that we were given and I have ‘FULL’ access in wordpress. WOW. Been looking at this for weeks and did not think about it until now. I have now changed main https://www.site.com home page to front page and all works as I want it so the old site is refreshed to the new site’s domain. Hopefully the domain is not renewed and we can register it in our name this time around.

Thank you for the help here as it allowed me to make the change once I got in the right admin area that the original guy had created for himself, even though he used the same password as ours! lol

    Thankfully he did.
