    Hello-

I have three questions that I cannot find any information for in the FAQ or in the videos:

One: I am wanting to add ECommerce / Shopping Cart / Checkout capabilities to my site. What route would you recommend I go to get this done? What integrates well with the Ultimate Catalog plugin?

Two: I have been searching up and down for the ability to add a drop down list within a product to make a final selection. For example, If I am selling a t-shirt I would like to be able to have a selectable drop down for color and size within a product. I am not looking forward to adding a unique product page for each size and color combination. Is something like this possible within the framework of this plugin? Or will I need to use custom fields to properly define each specific product? If I do have to use custom fields, is it possible to only display custom fields that have populated data on the Additional Information Tab?

Three: I did manage to get a custom tab to appear, how do I get a downloadable document (pdf) to appear in this tab for download? All I see is a ‘content’ box and I’m not sure how to populate it with a downloadable document.

Here is an example product page for reference:

Thanks in advance for your reply!

  • Hi sstekr,

One: We don’t have one specific recommended plugin or avenue that fully integrates eCommerce into our catalog plugin. You could try setting up your products with something like PayPal and then include the “buy” or “add to cart” button code in your product description. Alternatively, if you had an idea of a system you wanted to use, you could let us know what that is and, in turn, we could maybe take a look and let you know whether or not it would be feasible.

Two: You could indeed create a custom field (checkbox type for example) for the different sizes of a t-shirt and then assign the available sizes on a per-product basis. This will allow for filtering shirts by size available. However, on the individual product page, it will still show as plain text with the label and the available sizes (which would be the custom field values selected for that product). It wouldn’t show as the drop down you said you would like. Because this is designed as a product catalog – and not a shopping cart – there is no next step after the product page and, as such, no need for a visitor to actually select one of the custom field values. The important thing is just being able to show what sizes (i.e. custom field values) are applicable/available.

At the moment, the custom field label always shows in the additional information tab, even if there is no value assigned to it. The functionality you mentioned is a good feature, though, and one we will consider implementing in a future update.

Three: For this, what you could do is create a “Short Text” type custom field called “Downloads” and then put the download link (e.g. Download PDF) as the value for that custom field for each product. Then in your Downloads tab that you created, you could use the [custom-field-slug] functionality to display the download link in that tab. (Of course you’d have to replace “custom-field-slug” with the actual slug of your custom field.)
