easy way to insert pics?

    Is it possible to easily inset small (thumbnail size [not actually linked thumbnails) images into a post without using a plugin? I’ve tried doing it but each time my server seems to lag for about 5 minutes and it takes forever for the picture to load…? Any ideas, comments, suggestions?
