Would it be possible to add a check box to enable/disable a row or widget on a page?

Currently if I want to hide some content temporarily, whilst keeping it available for future reinstatement, I need to add display:none to the CSS and also give myself some indication that this is a ‘disabled’ section. I usually give the row a red colour and add a title to say ‘Disabled’, but this is a bit long winded and also doesn’t work for widgets within rows.

Ideally I’d like a checkbox somewhere in the edit section that, when checked, adds a red border around the row or widget and removes it from the front end view only. Does this seem like a good idea?
