Easier to update theme

    Hi,

    I’m new to wordpress and I would like WordPress to be easier to update theme you download from other websites.
    I tried to update mine today with FTP (Filezilla) and my website broke. I was just experimenting some stuffs on my new website, but I don’t want this to happen when my website will be finished.

    So my ideas :

    – Be able to overwrite theme even if it’s the same theme name.
    – Allow creator from other website like themeforest to update themes via WordPress.

    Like that you will not loosing everything.

    That would really defeat the whole purpose of curating themes in the WordPress repo here. To put it mildly, not all theme providers have the high standards that the WordPress theme team does.

    Vendors can create mechanisms for updating their themes from their own sources and many do so already.

    ok, but why not the possibility to unzip our updated theme over our current theme (like when you are installing a new theme)?
