    Hello,

We’ve been using TP for quite a while now on a local town website for meetings, and it’s been a pretty decent experience.

I will say though that with the latest update, some of the features that made the plugin so useful have gone.

Previously, I could double click in a row or a column and immediately go to the Advanced Editor window. I can’t seem to do that any more.

For managing large areas of the text in tables, you could previously resize column widths. I can’t seem to do that now either.

Additionally, given the amount of text in our column, is there any easier way to manage and view this? See attached link.

    Thanks!
    Ian

    Hi Ian,

thanks for your post and for using TablePress, and sorry for the trouble.

The Advanced Editor: TablePress has never offered a double click to open this, do you maybe mean a single click while holding the “Shift” key? This particular keyboard shortcut is indeed no longer possible, as that is now used to select multiple cells at once (in the same way as this is used in common spreadsheet software like Excel). However, opening the Advanced Editor is still possible with a keyboard shortcut: Just click the desired cell and then hit Ctrl+E (on Windows) or Cmd+E (on Mac) to open it. (You can also reach it with the right-click context menu.)

For resizing columns: While this was indeed possible via dragging the lower right corner of a table cell, this has also moved to the same place as used in e.g. Excel: You can now drag a full column wider or shorter by dragging the border line between two column letters in the header row of the table.

To use a larger default column width, you can use the TablePress Extension from https://tablepress.org/extensions/input-field-size/

Also, I’m currently working on not showing the full cell content at a time, which will reduce the height of tables that have long texts in the cells — this should drastically reduce the need for vertical scrolling.

    Regards,
    Tobias

Ah, you are correct. Cmd+E is a good alternative.

You can now drag a full column wider or shorter by dragging the border line between two column letters in the header row of the table.

I did have the Larger Table Edit Fields extension installed, and with that, you can’t adjust widths. So, that’s turned off now.

    That would be most welcome!

    Hi,

good to hear that the keyboard shortcut will help!

For the Larger Table Edit Fields Extension: You will need to re-install that again from a fresh download, as that will give you version 2.0. Only that will bring compatibility with TablePress 2.0. As the Extension is not part of the WordPress Plugin Directory and therefore can’t get automatic updates, you’ll need to perform that update manually.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
