    Hey all,

does anyone know how I can use the Duplicator with 1&1 please?

I’ve ready guides and 1&1 are zero help. They just keep asking me for the database, like I know what I’m talking about ?? Anyway, two guides and/or youtube videos I’ve been through, I am way past the packing of my original website etc stage but they then seem to skip the step where you have this new URL to run the .installer.php file from.
So in 1&1 I of course can create a new database but at what point can I get a URL or even a folder for my FTP client (filezilla) to upload to?

I was trying it as suggested by a guy at my work by first pointing my original domain name to 1&1, then installing wordpress on this domain but by deleting the WP files first out of the folder in FTP. Then pasting in the duplicator files. I then run the installer and it gets all the way to the end but with like 150 errors and no access. Guides say I am to be installing into ’empty server space’ but again I don’t get where they get a mydomain/com url from or how I can upload duplicator files to a database I’ve pre-made.

I hope that’s clear and any help greatly appreciated. I’ve pointed my domain back to my original host now. I always had access to it as it’s google cloud and I just used the original ip I was given when making that instance.

    cheers.

  • Hey @getowned

Check the installer-log.txt file (please do not post the full log here) and see if you see any errors like this:

**ERROR** database error write ‘Unknown collation: ‘utf8mb4_blah blah’

or any other errors. Let me know what you find.

    Thanks

    Hey Cory,

yes 150 errors and they all say database error……….

Again I think that’s just because I am trying to unpack it onto a website that was setup running wordpress, where I’d just deleted the original files out of the directory then pasted the copied ones in. People make mention of a fresh but blank to begin with destination.

So it’s these steps for this blank desitnation I am seemingly missing for 1&1.

Unless you say the way I’m doing it could also work? There was mention that the mysqldatbase version I am currently on with google cloud is somewhat higher than the 1&1 mysql. That’s when I was told to ring them up to ask if they could upgrade it and an hour later talking to people who seem to have never done anything like this before she wanted to do it her way and kept asking for the database. I have such trouble with googlecloud, setting up the FTP access, my email not working due to locked ports. Getting PHP access, it’s the reason why I need to move it, so getting my database using PHP with google cloud is just beyond me. I used a pluggin and got a version I think. It’s only like 11.8 mb. Is that right?

I believe its my SQL database versions. 5.7 on google cloud, 5.5 on 1&1. I don’t believe it’s possible to ‘downgrade’ this version on google cloud either :/

    Hey @getowned,

If you can give the developer version a try it may have the updates for your issue. The very latest version (1.2.27) can be found by following these instructions:

    Download Developer Version
    – Uninstall your current version and install this one.

Also on step 2 of the installer under options try checking the checkbox labeled:

Apply legacy collation fallback support for unknown collations types

Let me know if this solves your issue~

    Thanks

    Hey Cory,

I got it sorted finally and thank you ?? I assume clicking the legacy button helped.

I stopped getting all the database errors and just a general error which didn’t apply.

Plus for anyone else doing this, I found after my installation I still couldn’t login to wp-admin. My previous site had an SSL certificate so I had to apply a new one to the new subdomain I was using and voila ??

cheers, great plug-in and saved me hopefully any future hassles that was due to being with the complicated google cloud hosting ??
