Duplicator is a great plugin for not only ‘cloning’ but also backups. It is not an incremental but a brute force backup. Everything goes, not just content but all plugins themes, etc and the database data. One can omit subdirectories like caches.

The restore process is a bit tricky. Put both the install.php and the backup zip file into a NEW or EMPTY directory on a web server. navigate to the https://www.blahblah.com/xxx/install.php file via your browser and run the script.

NOTE: Omit the W3-total-cache plugin all together, not just the cache. imho. I had some issues with the different PHP on the two systems. probably ok on the same server.

I have tried several backup/restore systems and this is the most powerful yet with a simple interface. A logging system helps to sort out the issues.

It worked with 3.2.1 and 3.1.4. Did not originally work on Yahoo with PHP 5.2.12 and needed to upgrade to PHP 5.3.6. PHP 5.2.12 had zlib but not ZipArchive.

    Overall excellent plugin. Thanks lifeinthegrid.com

  • Glad to hear the duplicator was able to get the job done for you!

    Thanks for the feedback!

    second that. Plugin works great.

The restore method could be improved by:
    – option to delete all root files
    – copy and start install.php in new server.
This way it would be easier for less experienced noobs like me ??
