Hi, I’ve installed GA Google Analytics and it’s working well, except that I suspect I still have the tracking code from previously using Monster Insights (which stopped working, hence the change of plugin). I deactivated and removed the MI plugin but it seems to have left the code behind.

I have a suspiciously low bounce rate (currently 0.57%!) I researched it and apparently it’s usually due to duplicate GA tracking codes.

To check, I’ve installed the GA Debug Chrome extension and looked at my site – it does indeed seem to have two lots of code, with various error messages (‘VM116 analytics.js:25 The tracking Id should only be of the format UA-NNNNNN-N.’ and ‘analytics.js:25 Tracking script already loaded. Abandoning initialization.’ are two of them).

Do you agree that the issue is two separate instances of GA tracking code? If so, do you have any advice on how to remove the MI code? Thanks.

    Glad to help:

    1) “Do you agree that the issue is two separate instances of GA tracking code?”

Yes after examining the source code of your page, it does appear that there are two instances of the GA tracking code.

    2) “If so, do you have any advice on how to remove the MI code?”

I’m not too familiar with MI, so best advice would be to contact their support team directly and ask them. They will know best how to resolve issues with their own plugin, etc.

I hope this helps, let me know if I can provide any further infos.

Hi Jeff, thanks very much for checking the source code and confirming. I’d already created a topic on here in the Monster Insights forum, before I thought to contact you too. Hopefully I’ll hear back from them soon.

    Thanks again!
