    Hello,

In the search engine results for my site, the title appears to be duplicating itself. For example my site is entitled The Chicagolite. In Google or various other search engines it will show up as About-TheChicagoliteTheChicagolite. After researching various other posts it says that Yoast may be a potential problem. After Deactivating Yoast this did not solve my problem. I’ve also edited the title section in the header and I still have the same problem.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions as to what might be the problem?

Any suggestions would help, thank you for taking the time out to help me. I’m new to WordPress so help is very much appreciated.

You can view my site here

  • Any changes won’t immediately show up in a search engine, you have to wait to have your site re-indexed.

thank you for your response. I guess I will give it some time and see what happens with time

I have Yoast and don’t have this problem, so I guess the trick is somewhere in the settings.

After you have altered any settings, have a look at the source code. That’s control-u in Chrome. Under the title tag at the top you will see the text which will appear on the first line of a Google search result. If the site title is doubled here, it will be in Google.

Under that is the meta name=description tag which you don’t have at the moment. The content of this tag is the text that appears under Google’s search result. If you don’t provide a page description, Google will make one up from your content. This may not be as good as you want it, so its best to make one up yourself and put it in the Yoast page setting box for page description.

Once you have finished experimenting with the settings to get the source code to look right for title and description, that’s the time to sit back and wait for Google to crawl your site.

    Thank you Lorro,

I will take your suggestion. I think I just need to wait for the changes to take effect and for Google to crawl my site. This may take a while since my site is new so I just need to be patient.

Up to you, but my point is if, like me, you find you need several tries at getting the title and description just right, and you’re waiting a few weeks after every try, you could be at it a long time.
