Duplicate Pageviews in GA4

The filter add_filter( 'wc_google_analytics_send_pageview', '__return_false' ); is intended to prevent the WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration plugin from sending a page_view event.

You are implementing it correctly by adding it as a code snippet. 

However, it’s important to note that if two?page_view?events are firing on the WooCommerce pages, it could be due to another reason rather than the WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration plugin. The Google Site Kit plugin could also be sending a?page_view?event, thereby causing a duplicate.

Could you please send me a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Download for support” (after you scroll down a bit)”. Once done, please upload it to this chat.

It could be Site Kit, but when I deactivated the Woocommerce Google Analytics Integration plugin, the duplicate page_views disappeared. Also, it seems strange why these duplicate page_view events only fire on product and checkout pages.

Product Feed PRO is active on the site, but I don’t think it’s inserting any tags. I can account for all three tags shown in your screenshot:

• The Google Tag Manager tag is inserted via the Google Site Kit plugin.
• Both the Global Site Tag and Google Analytics UA code are inserted through the Google Tag Manager container, and are not placed on the site through Site Kit or with code.

If you navigate to a product page, Tag Assistant still shows only three tags, despite the fact that multiple page_view events fire and are sent to the G-0WX9B9BVZ6 Measurement ID. The only places that this ID is configured is in a Google Tag Manager Config tag, and through the Woocommerce Google Analytics plugin.

Do you think the UA tag is potentially causing this issue, even though the duplicate events are firing in GA4? The data stream associated with the above Measurement ID isn’t collecting Universal Analytics events.

It’s important to note that Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Universal Analytics (UA) are separate and distinct systems. GA4 uses a different data model and has different configurations compared to UA. If you’re using both GA4 and UA on your site, they will function independently of each other. Therefore, it’s unlikely that the UA tag is causing the issue with the GA4 events.

However, it’s important to note that despite multiple page_view events firing, they are not being registered in the data stream associated with your Measurement ID. This could indicate an issue with setting up the GA4 configuration tag in Google Tag Manager.

I recommend checking the configuration of your GA4 tag in Google Tag Manager. Ensure that the Measurement ID in the tag matches the one in your GA4 property and that the tag is set to trigger on all pages. If the tag is set to fire on some pages only, it might not be capturing all the page_view events.

What do you mean by this? Are you saying that the duplicate page_views aren’t affecting the page_view event count in the data stream with measurement ID G-0WX9B9BVZ6?

Also, how are you seeing this information? Are you using one of Google’s Tag Assistant extensions?

I used the Analytics Debugger extension you linked in your previous message to see what’s happening on a Woocommerce page. The page in question is:

The screenshot below is what I see. I interpret this as duplicate page_view events being sent to the correct GA4 data stream. Do you see something different on your end? If I understand what you said correctly, you are seeing that these events are firing, but they aren’t being recorded in GA4. Which page and tool are you using to see this, so I can recreate this issue? Thank you for your help.
