• Hi,

    I’ve read previous posts about duplicate orders/revenue tracked in GA, and see the cookie update you made in Oct 2019, but we are seeing duplicate tracking (7 out of last 77 orders). The only time we see duplicate tracking, though, is across multiple days. So for example order is placed March 23 and only 1 order is tracked in GA, but then a duplicate entry (or even multiple duplicate entries) shows up on March 24. Any idea? Thanks!

    I am not sure I will be ever able to provide a 100% accurate solution as mostly in mobile browsers this prevention can sometimes fail for unknown reasons. My best guess is that for example Safari on mobile might block creation of the protection cookie or limits the life span to 1 day which makes the cookie based protection useless.

    Another plugin user is now experimenting with additional checks around order date so if the date of the order is quite old (>30 min) than tracking should be prevented as it could be a duplicate one. Once this solution is tested, I will add it into the plugin core.

    Thank you for the quick response and info. Looking into possibly forcing a redirect once the same url is loaded a second time.

    The problem is more complex: in mobile browsers, when your customer is keeping the order received page open but close the browser app, the page is NOT reloaded if the mobile browser app is reopened and the order received page is shown again. Script however run again in some cases causing duplicate tracking. This is sometimes hard to intercept and block.

    Just some info in case it helps other users or further development. The 4 duplicate cases that I got details on all occurred on mobile, however 2 were android and 2 iphones.

    Thank you for that additional information. Would the same duplication occur if we ran the GTM manually instead of through Google Tag Manager for WordPress, do you know?

    Yes, this kind of issue is not connected to which plugin you are using for GTM integration. This is a generic issue in mobile browsers which is partly handled in GTM4WP
