We use Yoast to automatically create meta descriptions. However we can have similar pages on the sight that has the same text and will generate identical meta descriptions. Google does not like duplicate meta descriptions and penalizes us. Does anyone have a solution to this or know of a similar plugin to Yoast that addresses this issue? The least Yoast can do is to alert us when this happens, but their system does not do this.

@agencyequity We’re sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue on your site.

Can you please provide us with example URLs of the pages that you are receiving a warning related to duplicate meta descriptions on, so that we can advise you on the best way to resolve this?

For example, if you were receiving a warning of having a duplicate meta description/title on the paginated pages for a category, you can avoid having duplicate titles or meta descriptions by adding the %page% variable to your page’s SEO Title and/or Meta Description. You can do so by going to Yoast SEO>Search Appearance>Taxonomies tab (or Content Types, etc) in your WordPress dashboard, and then adding the %page% template variable to the SEO Title and/or Meta Description defaults, and this would affect a change to all of that content type or taxonomy to which the variable was added.

We also have more information on using template variables, and the variables available for use here: List of available snippet variables in Yoast SEO.

Do not post email addresses, ask others to post their email or solicit contacting people off of the forums.Do not post, offer, or ask for login information, even test IDs and test passwords.

If you are Yoast Pro user – use their site to make a support ticket, free version users please keep the support related things on forum if possible (unless some sensitive data which shouldnt be made public is requested, i.e. debug logs with such data)

    Hey @agencyequity,

Thank you for following up. No, that is not possible. Only our commercial Premium version and addons come with email support, see https://yoast.com/help/support/

If you are able to share some URLs so we can investigate, that would be cool. If you want to only privately share site information and more details, please consider getting Premium.

So one person from Yoast is saying to submit a support ticket, another person is saying “that is not possible.” I am confused,, the messages are very conflicting.

To the people at Yoast who are replying, why ask us to reply by submitting a support ticket when you really can’t do anything about it. You should have just replied in this forum that this is not possible and moved on. At least I can get feedback from others to see what other solutions are.

    Hey @agencyequity,

If you were confused about my “not possible”, that was the answer to your question about getting our email address… That is beyond what we can offer here at our forums. Hope that clarifies.

If you can share the spreadsheet (like sharing it in a Google sheet) or a screenshot of it that gives us more information to be able to help, please do.

    Have a great day!
