• I had high hopes for this plugin but one thing concerns me, the number, size and dimensions of images that are created in my upload folder. As an example I uploaded an image called “test.jpg” that is 400px wide by 600px high. When I checked my upload folder that image is there along with another called “test-400×600.jpg”, a virtual duplicate of the original with the exact same image size and dimensions. For someone with a lot of photos making an identical copy of images could be a huge resource waste.

I changed themes and the same thing happened so I’m pretty sure the Photoswipe Masonry plugin is causing this. There is also a third image that was created called “test-400×500.jpg” which is cropping the original image 50px on the top and bottom.

By the way, if you’re thinking this is caused by my WP media settings, all of those are set to “0”. I never liked the way WP creates so many images on upload so I found the “0” trick to stop that.

If there is something else I can try to eliminate the duplicate images or if this is something you can fix in a future release please do. Other than this issue the plugin seems great. Thanks!

  • Hi

That is how WordPress works with images. The images are created in advance to keep processing on page loads to a minimum. I didn’t use the standard WP images to keep conflicts to a minimum. If you wanted to you could edit the plugin to use existing sizes in your theme but it would be different depending on your setup.

    I hope that helps!
