• Hi,

I am facing a strange issue. I followed this tutorial to install the EEC : https://gtm4wp.com/how-to-articles/how-to-setup-enhanced-ecommerce-tracking-google-analytics-4-ga4-version
and ticked the “Track enhanced e-commerce” box.

I let it run for a day and now I can see duplicate events in my GA4 account : https://prnt.sc/l74ExfX2M9pq

I also noticed than when I run the preview mode in GTM I have two similar events :
    – “begin_checkout “with the “GA4 – Event – Ecommerce events” tag fired : https://prnt.sc/c0evjpRRPjg8
    – “gtm4wp.checkoutStepEEC” with no tags fired : https://prnt.sc/eZbHnpeiVbVC

My “GA4 – Event – Ecommerce events” detail is like that : https://prnt.sc/QX6PHkQMFNsJ

Finally, in the DebugView setting in GA4, I have many debug devices connected but there is just me working with the debug view :
    https://prnt.sc/xcugv-80z-2J
I noticed that it created a new device for every one of my action when I am debugging. Meaning when I add a product to the cart I can see the event in the DebugView for one device. Then I begin the checkout process and if I want to see the event fired in DebugView, I won’t see it in the same device, but in another device that I have to choose in the dropdown arrow.

I also don’t have a debug_mode parameter in the tag so this is strange.

I checked in the source code and I have only one gtag code and one gtm.js.

I also can’t see any data related to add-to-cart events in GA4 > Monetization > Ecommerce purchase https://prnt.sc/WfHe72r8R-4U

I am not sure if all of this is related to the main issue (duplicate events) but I thing its more relevant for you to have all the information.

Thanks for your help and for your plugin.

    Hi,

begin_checkout includes the data layer format that is using with GA4 tags. If you only setup GA4 tracking, that is the only event you need on the checkout page.

gtm4wp.checkoutStepEEC is the GA3/Universal Analytics version of the same event. If you do not use UA anymore, it is fine if there are no tags firing on this event.

I went through the funnel but I have not encountered any double event names. Cloud you use the Exploration feature in GA4 and check what devices and browsers are sending those events? Perhaps we need to narrow down the technological environment to find a solution.

    Hi Thomas,

Thanks a lot for your answer.
    I will have a look.
But I will need to stop using your plugin and GA for now, because it is not allowed in France anymore. I hope I will be able to use your plugin again soon.

Thanks again for your time and for your great plugin.
