Duplicate “cover-template” looks different

This theme is not that great for child themes, because the way it loads the styles and the way it handles page templates.
There is code in template-tags.php that is checking for the name of the cover template to add a class, so if you want to make another one, you need to add to the if statements. It is a bad way to do things, but it didn’t get changed in the development of the theme, even though I pushed for it.

(There is also a style based on the template slug of template-cover, which is added as a body class, and a lot of styles based on template-full-width.)

Thank you. This is the first answer that points me in the right direction.
I think I will use another theme.
I am certainly one to make changes in the theme and I rely on using a child theme so I don’t break anything.

@joy thank you for that transparent answer on using Twenty Twenty.

Based on a lot of threads here, it seems that the theme is very strict in it’s core design (i.e. replacing fonts, adjusting footer widgets, swapping heading elements, tracking down specific CSS selectors just to tweak padding and width, not having content options above the header menu, politely forcing users to place CSS overrides inside Customizer’s “Additional CSS” section) are just a few things that are throwing red flags for me.
