Duplicate content warnings from the (tag) search function on WordPress?
-
Hello Moz!
When running a report on Moz Analytics, it said I had several High Priority Issues (1,118!), I was advised to fix.
Upon further investigation, the issue for each url is:
Code and content on this page looks similar or identical to code and content on other pages on your site. Search engines may not know which pages are best to include in their index and rankings. Common fixes for this issue include 301 redirects, using the rel=canonical tag, and using the Parameter handling tool in Google Webmaster Central. For more information on duplicate content, visit https://moz.com/learn/seo/duplicate-content.
However, this has to do with my WordPress. When somebody searches a certain keyword, they land on a “search results” page, that lists the blog title, a description, and then all of the tags. Thing is, depending on what they search, a different url is assigned to them, but they can end up on the same search result page.
For instance on an article I wrote about how coffee reduces ED risk (sorry, hope content doesn’t offend):
All of these urls show up on the report:
1. https://www.mistermanpower.net/blog/tag/coffee-and-ed
2. https://www.mistermanpower.net/blog/tag/coffee-and-erectile-dysfunction
3. https://www.mistermanpower.net/blog/tag/coffee-reduces-erectile-dysfunction
But regardless of if they search the first, second or third term, or something similar they all go to the same page, with the same blog title, and same description, with same tags… while typing this, and visiting the links, I’m starting to see the issue myself……. it can definitely be seen as duplicate content! This related to the search function, so for instance, if somebody enters my blog, and then goes to search “coffee and ED”, they will land on that first result, and so on and so on.
Is there a quick fix for this? With 1,118 issues, and no coding knowledge on my part whatsoever, I will have to pay someone to fix… so hoping somebody is aware of this issue, and how to fix quickly (without having to enter in one by one)?
Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!,
David
