Featured Image Issues

I am using WordPress 4.0 and I am having a problem with the images. When I go to post and I want to add an image to the post so that you can see it without clicking on the actual post I use set featured image. When I do this the image comes out HUGE in the slider at the top, and then the post image is cropped and blurry. Please help me.
