Every time I look at the JetPack stats, I see two separate entries that refer to the home page:

    Home Page / Archives
    Kept Light Photography

The second happens to be the title of the home page although I made it hidden so as not to clutter the home page. Each reports a different number of views, sometimes one is higher, at others the other one wins.

Is it possible to eliminate this dual personality of the same page.

    Hi there!

Since you have a static front page on your site, the “Home page / Archives” item in your stats refers to a couple different things:

    – Your blog (posts) page.
    – Any blog archives page, such as posts from a particular month, in a particular category, or by a particular author

Any views of your site’s static front page are listed under that page’s title (“Kept Light Photography”), not the “Home page / Archives” item in your stats.

    Hope that helps ??

Thank you @lavenderhaze I kind of understand what is going on. That said, a little further down, there is another statistic for Authors which always subtracts the Home Page / Archives number from the total. If the total is 61 and the HP/A is 6, the author stat for me will be 55 although I am the author of all the pages mentioned.

I have a slightly better idea now. Thank you.

    Hi @acekin,

Since the posts page and archive pages are automatically generated by WordPress, they aren’t technically authored by you, since they are automatically generated. That’s why you don’t see them included in your author stats. Hope that helps!

I see. But what I call “home” page is the default page displayed when the domain name is entered and the user presses the enter key. The all posts page has /blog after the domain name. I understand that that page is automatically filled by WordPress, and is called an archive page. Is it also called “home page?”

    Home page is at https://www.keptlight.com

Home Page / Archives is at https://www.keptlight.com/blog

Is my understanding correct? Or does Home Page not refer to the page presented at the domain name visit?

I forgot to add to the short list that on the stats page, hovering over the Home Page / Archives bar displays the same URL as the Kept Light Photography bar. They are both pointing to the following:

    https:///www.keptlght.com

Your site can only have one home page, and in this case, your home page is the page that loads when you visit https://www.keptlight.com/ directly. The content of your home page is made up of your most recent posts and changes over time as you add new posts to the site.

When you add new posts to your site, the posts that were previously featured on your homepage are moved to your archive page, located at https://www.keptlight.com/blog/ specifically. The archive page is not considered a home page.

I forgot to add to the short list that on the stats page, hovering over the Home Page / Archives bar displays the same URL as the Kept Light Photography bar. They are both pointing to the following: https://www.keptlight.com

Thank you for the explanation. My question was, and still is that I have two page entities listed, Kept Light Photography and Home Page / Archives, that point to the same URL. I questioned why list and count two separate pages if they are pointing to the same URL.

I am attaching two screenshots. On each, you will see arrows pointing to the page and URL of each page. And you will see that they are the same destination.

I hope this explains my question. Thank you,

    Hi there, @acekin,

    Thanks for the screenshots!

The Home/Archive counts in stats refer to any of your posts page showing your site’s post feed, and also any archive page created by WordPress — this includes category, tag and author pages, and also search results. This means that if someone clicks on content that’s included in your Archive page, it gets counted as Home/Archive.

On the other hand, any views of your site’s static front page (Home) are listed under that page’s title, not the Home / Archives item in your stats.

I agree it’s a little misleading in cases like yours where your site has a static home page like yours; in other words, Home/Archives refers to the posts feed, which by default is the home page in any new WordPress installation.

    Hope that’s all clear!

There are two confusing elements. The first one is the “Home Page / Archives” title implying it counts visits to the “home ” page but it does not. The second is the URL they both share pointing at the actual home page of the site and when clicked actually takes me to the “home” page.

To improve clarity, may I suggest that the “Home Page” is taken out of the title leaving only “Archives.” The second is either adding words after that “Archives under …” or not displaying the URL as it is the sum of various categories, author pages, tags, date archives, etc. A single URL that is identical to the real home page along with the misleading title creates confusion.

Thank you, I understand, but accept reluctantly ??
