We’re using the combination of BackWPup and Dropbox on over 50 sites where a daily backup is created at nighttime. Seeing the (for us) sudden switch from long-lived access tokens to short-lived ones seems like a death-blow to this approach. Going over every site daily is not an option. And even then, this token has probably expired by nighttime.

Does anyone have a solution here?
Will BackWPup implement something that does work without daily intervention? Maybe use a refresh token?
If not, we have to start looking at alternatives, away from Dropbox and/or BackWPup. Suggestions are welcome ??

    Hi @bennygiesbers,

Going over every site daily is not required at all. Every job that contains an old dropbox auth token only needs to be reauthenticated once.
After fetching the new token, everything will work just like it used to before.
Dropbox stops the support for the old tokens at the end of September. So you have an entire month to retrieve the new token for all your Dropbox jobs before the job execution may start to fail.
You can read more about the change in the dropbox developer blog:
    https://dropbox.tech/developers/migrating-app-permissions-and-access-tokens#updating-access-token-type

I hope that makes it more clear in case our changelog caused this misconception.

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

    Hi Niklas,

    Thanks for the quick response.
It’s reassuring to hear that things will continue to work. I panicked when reading about the short-lived tokens and how they only last during a session, but I missed that BackWPup will already be using the refresh tokens.

    greetings,
    Benny
