Hi there, I have a new client who has used Dropbox as their repository for sermons (over 100 of them, about 50 MB each). Is there a way to present those in Sermon Manager, without having to load them on to the WordPress server? I tried using the Video Link field to place the link to the .avi in Dropbox, but when going to the Sermon post, it just shows the progress bar twirling, but never shows content. Am I missing something?

thanks in advance for any help or suggestion!

  • Hi,

The issue is that the player that is enabled in Sermon Manager by default does not support AVI files.

You could try to go to Sermon Manager Settings and change option named “Audio & Video Player” to either “Mediaelement” or “Old WordPress Player”.

Most players won’t support AVI, because it’s not the part of HTML5 video element specs.

    Thank you for your patience.

Thanks Nikola, I have tried all three, none work. I have since learned that (if I understand it correctly), Dropbox does not allow streaming of their content via third-party sites (as I am trying to do).

    Hi,

Seems like video streaming is allowed from Dropbox, but video files should be in MP4 format. (source)

Also, there is a high chance that no players in Sermon Manager support AVI format.

My recommendation is to download AVI files, encode them to MP4 (there are plenty of free programs for it), and then re-upload the videos to Dropbox or some other service.
