    Hi all,
my Dropbox is filling up with old UpdraftPlus Backups.
Checking the log near the bottom, it reads as follows:
    —-
    0117.594 (0) Delete file: backup_2020-05-16-1411_gonefilming_66141ddc8b76-plugins.zip, service=dropbox
    0117.594 (0) Delete file: backup_2020-05-16-1411_gonefilming_66141ddc8b76-themes.zip, service=dropbox
    0117.594 (0) Delete file: backup_2020-05-16-1411_gonefilming_66141ddc8b76-uploads.zip, service=dropbox
    0117.595 (0) Delete file: backup_2020-05-16-1411_gonefilming_66141ddc8b76-others.zip, service=dropbox
    0117.595 (0) Dropbox: request deletion: backup_2020-05-16-1411_gonefilming_66141ddc8b76-plugins.zip
    0117.889 (0) Dropbox: path_lookup (line: 237, file: /var/www/vhosts/gonefilming.de/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/includes/Dropbox2/OAuth/Consumer/Curl.php)
0117.891 (0) This backup set is now empty; will remove from history
    0117.892 (0) Deleting log file (log.3620114aa73f.txt)
0117.892 (0) Retain: saving new backup history (sets now: 7) and finishing retain operation
    0117.895 (0) Resume backup (850147efa484, 0): finish run
    —-
The log confirms the deletion, but the files remain on the Dropbox.
Any ideas, why this could be happening?

    Best regards and stay safe.

How are you checking your Dropbox – are they still there on https://www.dropbox.com/home if you visit via the Dropbox website?

Please can you include a screenshot that includes the filenames shown in your log file above?

I have been experiencing the same issue on multiple sites for probably a couple or three months now. UpdraftPlus shows only the number of backups I have set to retain until I click “Rescan remote storage”. I have to delete old backups manually.

The list of backups also shows some backups as not including all five components and without a “View Log” button.

(How do I add a screenshot? I don’t see any way.)

    Hi David,

the filenames are in plain text in my original message. What difference will a screenshot make? And to quote keysnparrots: “How do I add a screenshot? I don’t see any way.”

    Best regards,
    Volker

@davidanderson Hi David, I’ve been seeing this, too, for about the last two versions (the current 1.16.24 and the one before that; prior to that, I went months with no deletion problems). I think I have finally “figured out” what’s happening via the log file.

Like the log fragment @mlinndos posted shows, when a backup set expires, UpdraftPlus lists all the files to be deleted (plugins, themes, uploads, others) and says it’s deleting them all (“Delete file:”), but it apparently only asks Dropbox to delete (“request_deletion:”) the first of those files (plugins).

You can see this from tonight’s backup (I keep 4 days of files backups and 7 days of database backups).

Note that in Dropbox, the May 19 backup files listed are db, others, themes, uploads and uploads2 (no plugins), even though there should only be db: dropbox-file-list-2020-05-23.png

UpdraftPlus thinks it has deleted all of the other May 19 files, though: updraftplus-file-list-2020-05-23.png

(I forgot to rescan remote storage and screenshot before I manually deleted the other expired files from Dropbox, but after rescan, May 19 would shown the set contained everything but plugins, as @keysnparrots mentioned.)

Here’s the log snippet for tonight showing the expiration of the May 19 files and the fact it’s only telling Dropbox to delete plugins (highlighted lines): may23-log-snippet-2020-05-23.png

Hope this info helps you get to the bottom of this.

    Hi,

Please upgrade to the new release – 1.16.25. This fixes a defect that prevented deletion from Dropbox of more than the first .zip file, which entered in 1.16.23 (April 1st). Sorry for the trouble!

This new release won’t retrospectively delete old backups; you will have to delete those manually.

If you have any troubles on the new release, please open a new topic for them.

    Hi David.

Checking today, there are 6 backups – exactly the way, it’s supposed to be.
    Thanx!

In the future, can you make things like this more prominent in your update notes? It’s important that people recognize when they have to fix things manually and it’s easy to miss when it’s buried in the update notes.
