• I have noticed that I have 2 drop-in plugins – which I have not seen before, listed on my Plugins page:

    Advanced-cache.php
    install.php

I did NOT install them. How did they get to my wordpress directory? WHO has installed them? do I need them? if not, can I safely remove them?

I’m not a developer, I manage my website myself, and I don’t like seeing a plugin which I did NOT install myself and which can override my website functionality.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
    thanks

  • Hi @magicpowers,

Have you installed any caching plugin(s) such as WP Super Cache? advanced-cache.php is generally auto-installed by such caching plugins and you don’t have to worry much about it.

Could you confirm the path where install.php located?

yes I do have Cache Enabler plugin, and I believe that WP has some sort of caching plugin as a standard – so that one is fine.

the plugin page says that install.php it is in the wp-content directory. I don’t know the full path.

When I asked my website host to check this for me, he said that the plugin is installed by jetset plugin.

I do not have and never had the jetset plugin.

    can I remove it safely?

If you do not have and never had the jetset plugin then it’s better you remove (delete) it as soon as you can.

Did he mean the Jetpack plugin? That comes with WordPress.
