• Hi. Everyone. Thanks in advance for any advice you could give, because I’m completely stuck here.

I’m designing a website for my school and want to use WordPress the handle the dynamic content. One aspect of the organization are certain pages that will all use the same basic design, and so are idea for the Pages feature of WordPress. What I want to do is create a horizontal navigation bar to list those pages in a dropdown menu, like so:

ABOUT US | FACULTY AND STAFF | HIGHLIGHTS | etc…

All of the content in these categories are in subpages. When I set up the site I created a main page called “about us” and several subpages under it: “History”, “Mission”, “Academics” etc. So, I have it set, using the Suckerfish method, to drop down the list of subpages when you scroll over the main page title. So far so good. The problem is that the main page title (for example, “ABOUT US”) is a clickable link, but all of our content is going to be in the subpages. Is there any way to keep clicks on that main page title from doing anything?

Or is my whole scheme flawed? If so, do you know another way I can work it?

  • so it’s a CSS horizontal menu, with CSS drop-down menus? That would be the way to do it. With fancy CSS. Which I couldn’t tell you how, but someone who’s an expert in that area could. If done properly it is easily possible to have your Parent Page non-selectable, but have the Child Pages selectable in your drop-down nav. Good luck with your site! How’s it going?

My advice would be to find a theme that does what you like – and see how the theme does it..

The simplest solution would be to use the redirection plugin to simply redirect a click to “About Us” to the first subpage.

I am actually now looking for a way to have pages appear in the navigation, but if there is no content or the page is set as “private” or “draft”, it’ll be not clickable.

You could try out the K2 theme for which there is a dropdown menu addition.

I Have Tried the Plug in name Suckerfish method. I wanted to Grouop all sub pages under the main Page (parent page) but after applying that plug in the scheme was as followed.
There heading under the header named “Home | Pages | Catagories | Archives where as i wanted the parent page name on top and in scroll down menu i get the sub pages as drop down menu.

Here with this plug in when we bring our cursor to pages then it gives name of parent pages and if scroll to any parent pages it further gives the subpages. There Might be some code that can change it or any other plunging that can serve the purpose
