Drop Cap shortcode and search engines

I just tried out the dropcap shortcode. I like it, but it results in the first letter of the article missing from excerpts and I assume from search engine indexing?

I see this is already addressed in the documentation, which says to manually enter your own excerpt. That would fix the issue with the excerpts on my site, but won’t search engines still be missing the first letter when they index the post?
