Dreamweaver to WP – parallel installation

Hi,

I am considering moving over from dreamweaver to wordpress. It will be a big job, however, I want to have a wordpress version running on a seperate directory, and once I am happy with it all, move it to my root directory to replace my published content.

Is this possible? Is there an easier way of moving over from dreamweaver?

Can anyone help or give advice?
