Am I alone in finding that since updating to 3.8 the ‘Text’ widget from what used to be the ‘widget area’ can no longer be dragged and dropped into a side bar. The Plug In I’m running is the most up to date so far as I can gather 1.3.1

Has a new method been introduced for bringing the ‘text’ widget into a sidebar? Or is there a straight-forward upgrade type of confirmation thing I need to do

So far as I can see at the moment, there is no longer any way for bringing a new text widget into a sidebar?

  • Hi @melpomene,

    Thank you for the testing.

It seems from your test result that there is some compatibility issue with the ‘Guest House’ theme.

If you don’t mind could you please send me the ‘Guest House’ theme so that i can test it on my test site and confirm the issue is in the theme?

Just send me the theme on [email protected]
    – Include my name in the subject “Vinod Dalvi”
    – Include the URL of this post in your message so that I may track this issue better

I’ll see what I can do, it might not be that easy though?.

Someone else bought the theme and loaded it on WP for me then sent me the admin link etc and I took it over. I’m not sure I’ve got a ZIP file anywhere with Guesthouse in it

Is there another way of doing it otherwise?

    Hi @melpomene,

I think this may be JavaScript conflict issue between plugin and ‘Guest House’ theme but i can’t predict it without reproducing it on my test site therefore i need ‘Guest House’ theme which is paid.

Can you provide me FTP access of your site so that i will get it from there or download the theme folder via FTP from wp-content/themes
zip and send it to me?

Is there another way of doing it otherwise?

I will see if I can get the lead developer in here with his invaluable insight into this plugin for his advise for us.

I’d love to (really, I would)

Completing an FTP is a blind spot for me (another) I’ve never done one successfully yet, so it would be something I’d want to learn as I’ve got a couple to have a go at soon before my long suffering hosting compnay get their inevitable ‘help me’ email. If you were able to tell me how I’d happily give it a try. I’m certain I gave you an adminsitrative log in but if it can’t be done from there, then I fear I might not be of any use. I’ll see if I can find this wp-content/ themes thing though. Zipping a file is something I can do! albeit I wouldn’t be that confident I’d recognise what it is I’m looking for even if it were right in front of me

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.

When we ask for FTP details we are asking for a way to log into your server so that we can access the application files for a support request.
When you sign up for a hosting plan you should have received an email containing information such as how to login to your control panel and details on how to login to your server.

The FTP details will comprise of a server address (eg. https://ftp.yourdomain.com), a username and a password. If you don’t have them or don’t know what they are, you can simply contact your web hosting provider and they will give you this information.

I’m certain I gave you an adminsitrative log in but if it can’t be done from there, then I fear I might not be of any use.

You have given me only admin log in details to access admin area of your site but to download theme i need FTP or cPanel access.

I noticed you are using older version of GuestHouse theme Version: 2.40 and the latest version of the theme is version 2.42

Can you just try updating the GuestHouse theme to the latest version as they might have fixed the issue in the latest version of theme?

    Best Regards,

    Hey there.

We haven’t heard from you in awhile, so I just wanted to check in to make sure all was good.

This thread was marked resolved, but please, if you still need help then just respond and open it back up. We can then take it from there. ??

Hope you have a fantastic day!

I would say I’ve resolved it, but i’d be lying!!!

Basically I’ve decided to bring forward by way of programme development a new theme for the website to run. This I’ve now built and its an improvement on the old one and I’m very happy to run it. The bigger problem I now face is that I need to transfer this from a sub domain onto the two websites I’ve got. Big problem!

My host haven’t been terribly helpful and referred me to the wordpress forum for FTP instruction. As ever it starts off with the dreaded assurance “Moving your domain without changing the Home and Site URLs of your WordPress site is very simple”. It strikes me that anything that starts off with this mock assurance that its “simple”, never is. Not surprisingly the instruction continues to rattle off a load of inpenetrable technical speak, which quickly left me flapping in its wake. The sad thing is the person who wrote it probably thinks that it is simple (i’ll promise you it isn’t!)

So I now have what I think is a nice website running a nice theme that would improve the business, but sadly no way of moving this onto the domain I want to use to support it

    Hi @melpomene,

To help keep support tickets separate, could you please open a new thread for your new question. This helps to prevent any confusion as I’m sure you understand.

This might also help other members looking for a similar answer. ??

You will find some information about how to move WordPress from one server / domain to another on the following pages.
