I want to offer downloadable products on my webshop. The products will be GPX-routes for cycling. I’d like to make these downloads available on a later moment, but I’d liek customers to subsribe in the period before the download becomes available.

What do I have so far?
    > Buying a route works fine.
    > Confirmation by mail goes fine, but it contains a link to the GPX-file route already.
    > Placing an order let’s you make a new account. This works fine, but the download is immediately available in ‘My downloads’.

Is it possible to make the downloads available (in customers account) on a later moment?

    Example
    1) The cycling tour is on July 1st and contains 5 different routes.
    2) April 2nd John subscribes to one of the routes by buying this product on my website.
    3) John gets two mails:
    a. the confimation-mail without the download-link
    b. the mail to complete his account
    4) On June 1st the download becomes available to everybody who already bought a specific route. Customers download this using their account > My downloads.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi there,

A low-tech solution to this might be to use a URL to a page that links to the downloadable file, rather than the file itself. You can then set that page to Status : Private, or even just put a message that the download will be available on X date, until you’re ready and then either publicly publish it, or change the content so that it includes a link to your file.

If you’re looking for a more sophisticated solution then WooCommerce Memberships would offer a fully-fledged membership system that will allow you to assign memberships to users who buy specific products, and control access to content on a per-membership basis.

If you have more specific questions about that extension, please ask them via this sales form.

    Thanks for the respond!

Sounds interesting. But isn’t it possible to do it easier with just one setting or so?

If I use a page with the possibility to download the file, I can’t filter the payed customers, right? Or I’ll have to send a password manually to every payed customer for this secured page.

    Hi @rubenvankempen,

I think my colleague was saying you can use a placeholder page (instead of a path to the actual file) and later on swap it with the actual path to the download file, once it’s ready. In such a case, you’d not have to share any passwords with the customers.

    Hope this helps.

The solution I found out: unmark the products as virtual.
Now I can manually accept every order. Untill then, the customers will receive an e-mail but there will be no file to be downloaded. As soon as I confirm the order (mark as completed) the file will show in a customers mail ánd in their account.

Glad to hear that you have a working strategy for now – thanks for letting us know!

I’ll go ahead and mark this thread as resolved. If you have any further questions, I recommend creating a new thread.

    Thanks.
