• Hi —

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I have a few domains, all under one (bluehost) hosting account, so far each using a different theme. Each time I set up a new domain’s site, I am downloading another WP installation. Is this correct, or is it the wrong way to do it, especially if I wanted to share a theme or media between two of them?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Its correct and many webmasters do this.
You also could use some plugins like MultiDomain that allows multiple domains to run with one WordPress install with customization for each of them. The other better option is using WordPress MU.

I have the same setup with add-on domains at that same host, and I also have been advised that is best since each site is unique and a problem at one will not bring down another. And to keep things straight with security and regular maintenance (such as updates, backups and so on), I line them all up in my browser and move from one to the next for each task.

Thank you both for the info. So if I download separate installations of WP, is there a way to use themes I’ve purchased (on themeforest) that are in use for other sites?

You’d have to ask the theme vendor – if the price is per site, no, as you have to install the theme on each site separately.
