Download tracking

In order to assure the proper work of event tracking for ZIP download links, does it only work with plain anchor links <a href=... bla bla> or a stylize button with a shortcode with the URL inside will also work?

example:

[button link="https://www.mywebsite.com/pdf/document.zip" size="medium"]Download PDF in a zip[/button]

Because for now, nothing is working.
