I have recently used nextgen-gallery for a site I’ve built for a friend. Unfortunately, the web host my friend uses runs an old version of PHP. Because of this I had to downgrade to WP version 3.1.4. Now, of course, NextGen Gallery will not work. Is there an old version of the plugin that I can download and use that will work with 3.1.4 to save me having to start afresh with a different gallery plugin?
Hopefully we will only be stuck with this hosting until my friend’s credit runs out…

  • You can download old versions of NextGen here:

I need to go back to an older version too but I’m having trouble finding out how to install it without completely uninstalling the current version. I’ve read some scary threads about people losing their galleries and having to set them all up again. Please let me know if you know how to do this or find any info on it.

Hey all, @jackied1203 – you are absolutely right, you should NOT uninstall/delete the plugin to go back a version. Doing so will cause you to lose all of your previously created galleries! Not good!!! ??

You’ll need to connect to your server via FTP (I would suggest an FTP client like Filezilla ), and go to /wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery . Have that open, and then copy the old plugin files from whatever version you wish to go back to (download from here) and overwrite the plugin files on your server.

BEFORE you do anything, make sure to make a full backup of your site in case you need to restore your site in worst case scenario. We have tips on some good backup plugins in our blog article here: https://www.photocrati.com/help-prevent-wordpress-site-breaking-hacked/

    Hope that helps!
