Download Attribute No Longer Working

I originally had links for all my files with the “download” attribute so that the files would be downloaded immediately when clicked rather than open in a new window. Now that my files are being served from an external domain (a subdomain from s3) the download attribute doesn’t work. Is there any workaround for this to still allow my files to force download on click rather than just open in a new window?
