    Hello,

On my website I am using Greek text for the H5P quizzes I created. For that reason, the downloaded Excel file does not properly display the Greek characters, and instead shows special characters like “[0] ?“?1?± ???·?? ????????”.

I am assuming that something is off with the encoding of the file, but I have discovered that if I convert the downloaded .csv file to .xlsx, the characters display just fine.

So with that in mind, is there something I can do to change the default download format to .xlsx rather than .csv?

    Thank you!

Hi! No, that’s not possible, sorry. Have you made sure that whatever you open the CSV file with supports UTF8 and does not assume some other encoding?

I see, thank you for the prompt response.

Yes I am using Microsoft Excel (Office 2021) to open the file which of course supports UTF8 encoding, but for some reason, does open the exported file using UTF8, unless it is converted to .xlsx.

The conversion process is easy, but yet again I would prefer if the process was automated for my client.

Feel free to check with a plain text editor what encoding is used in the file and what encoding your server is using.

Okay the exported file is apparently UTF8 encoded, it’s just that Excel fails to properly display Greek characters from .csv files, even if the encoding is correct. It does however display them fine in .xlsx files.

Anyway, thank you for your effort regardless!

Sorry that Excel doesn’t suit your needs.
