• I am testing this plugin. I subscribe using my gmail account, adding +test to it so it will accept the mail.

I get this link back in the confirmation email.

    https://sffanz.nz/?es=optin&db=4&email=<email address>&guid=aktgnc-iwroea-ulcbmd-xkoqjm-bczkhj&cache=cteqsw-fagdmo-ofyvjz-dczrqh-smzuit

When I click on this link, it goes to the page, but there is a message on the page.

    ——————

Oops.. There was some technical error. Please try again later or contact us.

And the subscription is not confirmed.

I’m unsure how this link is supposed to work…

  • Hi Norman,

The link seems to be absolutely fine. The error might relate to plugin conflicts. Can you please temporarily deactivate all plugins except Email Subscribers and have a recheck on the issue?

So I found that if I have a plus “+” in the email address, then the confirmation fails.

eg if my address is [email protected]

    and I put in:

    [email protected]

Then the confirmation will fail. This is independant of what plugins are running.

Being able to put in a “+” into an email address is pretty much essential since it’s an allowed character, and it’s very useful with Gmail addresses to be able to add a “+” so that we can use a working email address, and add a “+test” or similar so that we can subscribe using a working email address.

    Thanks

    Hi Norman,

I’m sorry I understand it wrong previously.

I can see that + is not allowed in an email address, as you can see here https://www.screencast.com/t/2ms3r0Ym

I also did try to register an email address with ‘+’ in it and I could not register it anywhere and so you are encountering the issue.

Please let us know using this link if you have any such email address so that we may take a closer look into it.

Yes, as I said in my post above, it’s pretty essential to allow ANY allowed character in an email address.

You can see here references to allowed characters in email addresses.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_address

Your system should really support any email address that complies with the standards.

    Thanks

    Hi Norman,

I understand the concern and forwarded it to our developers. I currently do not have an ETA for the fix but our developers are now aware of it and will implement is soon.

    Thanks for your suggestion.
