I’m on WP 4.6 and BP 2.6.2 and MailChimp for WP 4.0.3.

I wanted to have a checkbox to capture subscribers to the website into the newsletter. My User Agreement covers this and since BP already is sending an email to activate the account, I’m thinking that should provide cover so only activated accounts get into the newsletter.

Subscribers don’t need/want 2 immediate emails confirming what they just asked for.

So going down the checklist on the BuddyPress integration:

Enabled — Yes
Implicit — No
MailChimp Lists — Signups
Checkbox text
Sign me up for newsletters!

Pre-check the checkbox — Yes
Load some default CSS — Yes
Double Opt-in — No
Update Existing subscribers — Yes
Replace Interest groups — No

So you can see that double opt-in is no, yet mail chimp is still sending an activation email.

I have Update existing subscribers set to yes, because we also let people sign up for the newsletter independently of creating an account via buddy press and I wanted to avoid duplicating email addresses if they already are in the newsletter system.

Hi Steigw,

Sorry for the late reply. Did you resolve this by now?

If you go into your MailChimp account and check the list settings for the selected MailChimp list (“Signups” I believe) what does the “Send welcome e-mail” setting look like?
