Installed the plugin and have set up one notification, for New Post Published. In the Send To field I have each of the categories – Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor and Subscriber. I have several identities on the site (so I can test with different privilege levels) and when a post is made each identity gets two notifications. Clicking Send me a test email just generates a single notification.

    Hi AKCarlow,
    Thanks for your message.

Can you install the Email Log plugin and see if the duplicate emails are being logged as being sent there too?

Let me know how you get on.

    Thanks,
    Jack

OK, I did that. Then I sent a test email in Notifications – one received, one logged. Then I put up a new post. Each of 49 users (including my test ids) was logged as being sent three notifications. But my test ids received only two emails.

So three are being generated (or at least logged), but only two received.

I don’t know if this is relevant, but one of my plugins is WPBook, to copy posts to facebook. Ah, yes, that is relevant. I just now deactivated WPBook and put up a new post. Each user is logged once, and my ids each received one email.

Update: the 3rd set of notifications (of the three logged) arrived later.

This should now be fixed in the latest release, available shortly.
Please have a read through the Changelog for anything that may effect you.

    Thanks,

Jack, I updated to the new version, but still get three notifications per post.

    Hi AKCarlow,
What are you using to get the log, above?

I’ve tested the latest update a fair bit and haven’t been receiving multiple updates so was happy to make the release.

Did you create the notifications for ‘New Post Published’ before or after updating to 1.3.9.3?
I wonder if there’s something that’s causing the issue that’s still inherit in your notification that was caused by either 1.3.9.3 or 1.3.9.4.

Please also test with other plugins disabled, in case there’s a conflict you can rule out too.

Let me know how you get on.

I used the plugin you suggested, Email Log.

There is only one notification set up, and it was created with 1.3.9.4, which was a new installation, not an update.

I deactivated WPBook, did a new post, and there was only a single notification per post.

I’ll try setting up a new notification and see what happens.

Thanks for trying to fix it, Jack.

    Austin.

I deactivated the original notification and made a new one with the same settings. I reactivated WPBook, made a new post, and got two (not three) notifications. In the log extract (earlier post) the log ids were 993/994/1049 – two together, then one after cycling through all the members. Now I’m getting 1254/1304, so you’ve eliminated half of the double, but are still getting the third – maybe when it comes back from WPBook?

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to test.

It seems that the WPBook plugin uses auto draft to publish which is causing the additional notification. Not sure why it’s doing that but it’s definitely a problem with the WPBook plugin now as opposed to BNFW.

I recommend maybe trying another WordPress to Facebook plugin and seeing if that solves the problem.

I’ve turned off WPBook and installed Social Networks Auto-Poster – no doubles with the test post, anyway. Thanks for your help.

Wonderful. Glad you got it working Austin.
If you like BNFW and the support, please feel free to leave an honest review.

    Thanks,
    Jack
