double meta desciptions

After updating the Theme from 2.7.1 to 2.8.1 my posts and pages appear with double meta descriptions. So same URL and two meta-descriptions. One is the actual meta description and the other is the excerpt.
I also reached out to Yoast with the same issue and their answer is that it is theme related.
