What WordPress version, plugin version? Is your WordPress core files customized in any way?

Hi! I tested it in one more website:
Under WP 3.6.1 the system redirected me to a 404 error page upon activation. And it’s impossible to activate or even delete. I had to delete it manually via FTP. This site is in a server with Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2.17, MySQL 5.5.
In the other website with WP 3.7.1, I obtain a 501 Not Implemented error page. This site is in a server with Apache 2.4, PHP 5.4.21, MySQL 5.5.
Both servers have a strict Mod_Security policy, but I’ve never before found such errors in any other plugin.

    Any ideas?

The link to activate the plugin goes to:
    https://www.mydomain.com/blog/wp-admin/plugins.php?action=activate&plugin=creative-commons-configurator-1%2Fcc-configurator.php&plugin_status=all&paged=1&s&_wpnonce=15b09cba9b

Maybe the encoded char %2F in the url is breaking something.
    I can’t tell.

    Hi Marcelo,

It would be very helpful to check if any error messages are recorded in apache’s error_log (and possibly php’s error log, if there is such a separate log).

Also, if mod_security is involved, it should have recorded to the logfile which rule has blocked the request. Another possible interference of mod_security could be any URL normalization rules.

What really puzzles me is the fact that the plugin does not perform any special operation when activated/deactivated or when the admin panel is generated. Everything is within the “specs”.

It’s been a while since the last time I used mod_security. If I can find enough free time, I’ll test it. Which ruleset do you use? CRS?

Even if activation works, the license selection dialog of v1.5.1 might still fail due to possible URL normalizations. v1.5.2 should have any problems. I’d be very interested in your feedback about this.

    Kind Regards,
    George

    Hello there,

I haven’t heard back from you.

I suspect that the cause of your problems is one or more mod-security rules. Apache’s error_log and mod-security’s audit & debug log will give much information about any potential issues.

Enabling ‘Detection Mode’ in the mod-security settings could also be helpful.

I tested activation/deactivation of Creative-Commons-Configurator with mod-security’s Core Ruleset (CRS) in detection mode and all errors that occured were unrelated to the plugin activation.

Since, this does not seem to be a problem with the plugin, I am going to mark this topic as resolved.

Feel free to reopen it once you have feedback to send.

    Kind Regards,
    George

Hi! I’m taking a little holiday tomorrow, and won’t be able to test it until 6-7 days from now on. By now, I managed to put the CC logo in the footer, which was generated in the official website of Creative Commons. I’ll try to give this a try the next week.

OK Marcelo, have a good time!

In the meantime I’ll try to test this more thoroughly in the weekend.

Marcelo, I haven’t been able to reproduce the error. Please check the mod-security logs or the logs generated by any WordPress security plugins. Also check this topic out as it might be related.

    Thanks for your feedback.
