Don't want the featured image to appear on top of post

If you don’t select a featured image, the first image in the post will be used as the thumbnail on front page. Does this help you?

Not really, because for instance in this post https://www.practicaryoga.com/2012/08/22/chakra-muladhara-encontrando-estabilidad/ I didn’t choose any featured image so I should have gotten the first one on the thumbnail, but I got the second one.

And also I tried before not choosing a featured image and then I selected that post as a sticky post, but then I didn’t get any picture at all on the front page!!

I would like to know if there’s a way to just select an image as featured without having to have it appearing big on top.
