When I was searching for themes I chose one that I liked based on the demo theme. I was hoping the exact site would populate once I installed it and I could just swap out pictures and text, but I don’t see any of it except the wavy line and a bunch of section headings. It’s totally blank otherwise. It seems I have to start from scratch. That’s not what I was looking for. Did I install it wrong? I did it directly through WordPress, not an upload. Though, I tried to fix it through an upload, but it said that file path was already in my site, so I couldn’t upload it. Can you help me? I really wanted basically a drag and drop situation (or something close to it). I’m fairly tech friendly, but feel a bit overwhelmed by WordPress right now. It doesn’t seem super intuitive. I am used to using Wix, which is very intuitive and easy. I chose WordPress because I hear there’s a lot more customization opportunities. I do want to figure this out, because my client really likes this theme (as do I).

The other thing I was having trouble finding was the dimensions of the images for the four center images as well as the ideal dimensions for the header/marquee image.

Ah, there you are. Thank you for posting here.

Now I understand about being blank. Generally themes will install as a blank site (for new site setups). What you see in demo sites for themes is what was setup to showcase what it can do. Usually displaying features of the theme, available layouts, etc.

The reason why a theme loads in blank, is better because everyone will have different site needs and layouts, including content. Many times if a full website is loaded, such as a duplicate of a demo site, it can often mean more work for the end user. Plus, not everyone starts off with a new site, many have existing sites with content, so that could also create a problem if a theme installed a complete layout.

Some themes will include a content import (a plugin is needed for this) which loads in posts, pages, menus, and comments. The import feature also will give the user the choice of importing images as well, but this will depend on the demo site if they contain images that are free or if they use licensed images. One thing though that doing an import, is that widgets are not exported/imported, so this is one thing that would have to be done from scratch. This won’t be a theme export file issue, it’s more of how the export works with most plugins.

Long story short, you didn’t do anything wrong.

If you are still interested in using Longevity, I can certainly help guide you through the steps to achieve something similar if not exact to the live demo site. To start, this theme does have setup documentation, including a tutorial on creating a front page like the demo.

    Setup Tutorials

WordPress is not always easy and really depends on the type of site one has or needs to create.

Regarding your last post about image sizes, my tutorials (for the most part) will offer that kind of information, for example: Front Page Setup

Anyway, hopefully the information I typed out here will help you. If you decide to try out Longevity, you have the setup tutorials, but you also have support available if you run into any problems regarding the theme setup, features, and any bugs or issues you discover.

If I want five widgets for your demo theme, will this work? If so, do you recommend different dimensions?

Four Widgets = Each image thumbnail is 250×160 pixels. Make sure they are equal in size for consistency. You will need 4 of these.

Unfortunately this is not coded in the theme to have 5 side-by-side widgets because the theme uses the Bootstrap grid layout structure which is based on 12 columns.

You could create multiple columns within a single text widget, but this limits you to using only text widgets with your own content (no other widgets can be added)…although you could get 5 column layouts with this method. It also requires HTML to do this.

With the group sidebars such as Top 1, Top 2, Top 3, and Top 4, you can have 1, 2, 3, or 4 widgets published side-by-side. They self-adjust in width based on how many you publish. So if you have 3, each one will resize equally in width.

Themes with page builders can do what you are wanting. You could also check out a page builder plugin called Page Builder by SiteOrigin that could help out with the kind of layout of 5 widgets.

Thanks. I’ll try Page Builder by SiteOrigin.

I know basic HTML5 and CSS3, but if I can drag and drop, I’d much rather do that.

    Longevity theme.
Call to Action is not displaying on ‘front page’.
Created ‘Home’ page with Page Attributes: ‘Template Side Bar only’.

    Reading settings >>
Front page settings – A Static Page.
    Front page selected as ‘Home’.

But still ‘Call to action’ content is not displaying on ‘Front page’.

Kindly help. I have spent so much time in setting up this. But of no use.
    Thanks in advance.

@suvarna moolemath…I am sure the forum moderators will catch this being posted here instead as a new topic, so if you could post your request as a new topic, I will be more than happy to help you out on this and we will get this solved for you quickly.

@kwolfson. About the best way to learn WordPress is on youtube. Tyler Moore has some of the best tutorials on learning to build a WordPress site.

Images sizes. Most of the time you can right click on an image and then left click on properties and it will give you the size of the image.

Foxfire has an Addon on called Measureit that you can use to measure an image.

And you don’t find any better themes and support than Shaped Pixels. They are our go to themes.
