• I have the default wordpress large size set to max 1600 width x max 1200 height. I upload all my images to galleries 1600 pixels wide. These are left un-regenerated by the plugin, so the size stays whatever the original image, approx 300 kB per image. My vertical images, however, which are 800 x 1200 pixels (800 wide), get regenerated and while the image dimensions stay the same, 800 x 1200 pixels, the size increases from 300 kB to 900 kB. I have set force original to the large image size in the advanced rules setting, but it doesn’t help to leave the vertical images as originals. Any ideas?

    Hi,

Can you please go to the extensions manager and activate the import/export extension, then export the settings so that I can have a quick way to replicate the same settings you have. Also, I would need some exact image files you are using to see if I can replicate this.

    Regards,
    Iulia

@chrisgot You should ensure that your quality setting is somewhere around 82.

Also, you can install and image optimization plugin to further reduce image sizes, and possibly even convert to the WebP format, which is smaller.

@iulia-cazan Having said that, sometime ago, there was a fix to WordPress to prevent thumbnail generation for identically-sized images. Are you somehow bypassing this?
