• Avoid it if you put any work into your website

I built my website using a gutenverse supported theme without installing gutenverse (I had issues with activating the gutenverse plug initially). I was putting the finishing touches on my website when I decided to install and activate the gutenverse plugin. I thought, “as long as I don’t change my theme and only preview the changes of my website it should be fine right?” WRONG. Gutenverse deleted almost all the information on my website, and there was no way to revert back the changes. Weeks of work gone, because of a plugin that I could not even install initially. Don’t make the same mistake I made. Or at least make sure properly backed up your website before meddling with the website.

    Hi @presswords96,

We’re sorry that you are experiencing this problem.
If we may know, what theme are you using?
And could you explain in detail what was happened?
Our plugin do not remove nor delete any crucial data from someone’s website.

Also yes, it’s always best practice to backup before you do anything that could impact the site.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I am using Zeever as my theme

I installed Gutenverse on these versions:
    Zeever 1.0.2
    Gutenverse Version 1.2.3
    Wordpress 6.0.1

I have since updated Zeever to its latest version (Version: 1.0.4), which fixed some bugs but did not bring back my content.

Here’s a bit more of a detailed story:

I initially installed the Zeever theme. I was then prompted to install gutenverse. However, I came across a problem similar to this person and was unable to install gutenverse. I didn’t have the time to wait for someone to fix the website, so I went ahead and made it on the Zeever theme without Gutenverse. There was a few very small bugs but all in all I was able to make my site.

This problems seems to have been fixed a few weeks ago, so I decided to install the Gutenverse plugin and try it out. I installed it, activated it. It then deleted most of my information.

It reverted the home page (front page) back to the default setting, however all my other pages were not deleted. Which is a shame since most of the information and work that was done was on my homepage. The theme is designed that way.

Yes, I defiantly should have backed up my site, even if is activating a plugin. Lesson learned

    Hi @presswords96 ,

We understand that it’s frustrating losing the data after days of works.
Did you make sure the home template is saved successfully after you edited it?
If it saved successfully, WordPress should by default load the saved data even if the theme is updated or you installed our plugin. Unless you cleared the customization of the saved templates.

However we still can’t replicate what possibly caused your template to be reverted. If we understand how you save the data, we probably can help you with your issue

Regarding themes templates, we have already prepared new mechanism to load the templates which will available in the upcoming update.
