After completing a backup, I downloaded it onto my Mac computer but it can’t be extracted. I don’t think it’s a complete backup anyway because the 2.24 GB file took only a second to download.

However, when I downloaded it the second time, it took much longer and was a full 2.42 GB but could still not be opened.

The backup files have an odd extension after the .zip that is something like .SCw6dv
Deleting this extension did not make a difference.

I see other users with the same problem in the comments. At this point I am pretty sure I don’t want to trust this plugin to safely backup my website.

    Hi @clarkag

The backup files have an odd extension after the .zip that is something like .SCw6dv

That because of the backup job still running and the final backup archive has not been created yet after the job completed, you will see the correct zip archive file.

Thanks for the explanation. That definitely makes more sense.

May I suggest that the interface not allow you to download a backup until it is completed? And also have some sort of indicator of the backup’s status.

This would prevent people such as myself from downloading incomplete backups and thinking they have issues. Simply a user perspective.

Of the 5 backups I have made, 3 still have the odd extension some days later. The two that have only the .zip extension are still unable to be extracted after downloading.

yes, it already on our feature improvement list ??

hmm, so that means the backup job was killed unexpectedly when running

The two that have only the .zip extension are still unable to be extracted after downloading.

If you download the backup archive directly from CPanel or FTP, can you open that?

    Thank you!

I would need to create an FTP backup to test this, but at the moment I can’t find the BackWPup settings anymore from the left WordPress menu.

I still have a tab open to the BackWPup settings, so I can see where they should appear. However, on any refreshed page they are gone. The plugin is activated.

I have deactivated and reactivated the plugin several times.

    Hi @clarkag
hmm, I don’t see there is any possible plugin conflict there.
can you check if BackWPUP left menu show up?
    Thanks!

    Thread Starter clarkag

    (@clarkag)

I deleted the plugin entirely and installed it again. The left menu showed up as normal.

I ran a backup job which it says completed successfully, but the Backups the Backups tab says there are no backups available. I have tried twice.

I see that BackWPup has lots of positive reviews, so i am not sure why it doesn’t work on my site.
