domaine.com/wp-admin/install.php does not open after uploading WP 3.1

  • Hello guys,

    I have just uploaded all files of fresh WordPress onto the server. Now I need to open my wordpress site for the first time and setup login info.

    When I go to home page: mysite.com, I assume that I should be automatically taken to wp installation page. (https://mysite.com/wp-admin/install.php)

    But nothing happens. Nothing opens.

    When I go directly to: https://mysite.com/wp-admin/install.php
    it gives me this note:
    “You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.”

    I did have old WordPress site on this server, but I did delete all those old wp files, so there are not any of old files there anymore.
    But strangest thing: when I go to my old login page (the one which should be deleted by now) and use the old login info, my old wp site is still running, even though I did delete all those old files.

    Any suggestions?

  • The easiest way – create a new db and change the config.php to reflect that. Go to yoursite/wp-admin/install.php and the install procedure should start.

    So you are suggesting to set up new MySQL database?

    That’s the best way to avoid any problems with old data, pointers, etc. Unless you are merely doing an upgrade but I took this as a new site.

    thanks for your support. It is a pain for me, because I am new in this and I thought that wp will make my life easier. It hopefully will, once I figure this out.

    I did now created new db and uploaded wp again, but it now shows a warning saying that there is an error establishing database connection.

    Do I have to create new FTP account as well? I am not sure what I do wrong.
    I will try to delete all databases, all users and start over again.

    Recheck your database information may be there is slight error.

    It is finally working.
    I had to delete existing 2 databases and set up new one, so it’s now OK.

    I have an existing blog that I just upgraded to 3.1 now I can’t access my wp_admin I get a blank (white page).It was working fine before the auto upgrade
    Have also deleted all plug ins
    Any help would be appreciated
