    Hi,

I can get subdomains and regular domains to work for subsites, but not with www preceding the domains. I’ve tried making https://www.domain.com the primary domain (for subsites), but no dice, it just routes to our ISP’s generic search page.

    Some background notes:

    1. I don’t want to use nameservers to map the domains, but instead the registrar’s DNS. I’ve set the registrar’s CName to point to maindomain.com.
    2.Using HostGator VPS
    3. WordPress MU Domain Mapping plugin
    5. Copy of domain-mapping.php added to mu-plugins folder
    5. All other plugins are turned off

If you have any ideas, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance!

When you don’t map the domain, where does it go? parked correctly, and this is totally outside of WordPress, it should go to maindomain.com

That may be where it’s a bit odd. You may have to tell DNS explicitly to send https://www.domain.com to maindomain.com

If I don’t add a domain (to the subsite), it goes to the subdomain, thus subsite.parentdomain.com.

So, would I handle that at the Registrar or web host?

BTW, the reason I’m trying to avoid using nameservers for each domain is because I’m under the impression that this would redirect the users email to our server too, which we want to avoid. Basically, I want the user hosting their email elsewhere, like with a Registrar. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks for your help, once again.

    Peace.

At the registratar. NONE of this is WordPress. This is the work you have to do to get the domain to point TO WordPress ??

Well … That can be true, depending on how you set the domain up. Mind you, I have domains on my nameserver that use Google for email, and all I had to do was change the MX records.

It’s six of one, half a dozen of the other. The problem remains: the domain isn’t pointing to the right place ??

If I don’t add a domain (to the subsite), it goes to the subdomain, thus subsite.parentdomain.com.

Sorry, what I meant was where is mappeddomain.com going when it’s not mapping within WP? What shows up?

Sorry for not responding back to this sooner…

It all works now, shortly after I got your response. I basically focused on what you said here:

When I focused on the Registrar, I figured it all out…it was all about c names and a names, at least with what I’m doing.

    Thanks again!
