    Hi!

I did some looking through the threads and wasn’t able to find the answer.

I’ve just been talking to some SEO guys and they raised concerns about the image resources of the site not reflecting the domain mapping. For example, here:

    https://adventure.everydaycalifornia.com

The other thing is – how do the 301 redirects work on the backend in terms of the site?

They were also asking – if we have a client who had an old site elsewhere, add them to our multi site and then do the domain mapping… is this effectively telling Google old site -> multisite -> domain mapped site?

Hi, sorry for poorly wording my post previously.

I run a multisite and we have many clients who used to have websites located elsewhere.

If we have a client who had an old site elsewhere, add them to our multi site and then do the domain mapping… is this effectively telling Google old site -> multisite -> domain mapped site? (ie, a 2 step redirect)?

If you uncheck the “run dashboard on original domain” in the domain mapping setting then the entire site runs on the mapped domain.

Is there a reason you are using domain mapping instead of editing the site URL of the site in network admin to be the domain that you are migrating?

Ron. I didn’t know about the ability to edit a site URL – the only people I know doing this all use Domain Mapping, and I thought that was the only way.

    Testing things now.

    Hey Ron

So – I’m looking for this setting you mentioned
‘uncheck the “run dashboard on original domain”‘

Am not seeing it in the Network Admin Dashboard or in Website Admin Dashboard – but the act of editing the site URL in conjunction with Domain Mapping seems to be working.

@matjnewton – the checkbox is in Network Admin -> Settings -> Domain Mapping
