I’m new to this stuff so bear with me!

i downloaded wordpress and all I got was a PHP error. I looked into it an got wampserver up and running.

I have a domain name I’ve bought and can’t find anything in the WP-adim to add it. Any advice would be awesome!

  • Hi geralama. This section in the Codex might help:

You set the “home” and “siteurl” fields on the General Settings page in the admin panel.

You will then need to to set up a virtual host in your Apache settings. After that’s set up, you will need to edit the HOSTS file on your local system. For Windows, the file is located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts, and in most flavors of Linux (including Mac OS X) it is located at /etc/hosts.

You will then be able to use your domain name on your localhost install.

If you’re of the belief that you can set this up and have others access your site using the domain name, unfortunately that is not possible. (Actually it might be possible depending on your home ISP, but given the H-U-G-E security issues this would create, it should never be done.) You’ll need to purchase hosting from a shared or VPS provider and set up your WordPress installation on that server.
